Shovel Ready

Shovel Ready is a state designation by the Indiana Site Certified program to certify that sites are ready for development. Communities can apply for different levels of certifications including prime, gold, and silver. Generally, "shovel-ready" describes the condition of a site that is ready for a project to be started.

Region 3A's role includes working directly with economic development corporations to achieve the desired designation. Property owners contact them with a site they have invested in and want to get prepared for shovel ready designation. They handle the application paperwork, coordinate, and work with the state to help achieve the designation. The various site certifications help owners market space conditions to specific companies for use of the space to bring them to the area for economic growth.
